ProgramCritique.com Review:

Ecommerce exchange is software for your merchant account program. Ecommerce exchange prints electronic checks and runs various credit card orders. There are many similar programs like Zon, Nurit, etc, which can turn your computer into a terminal. This could be in place of a separate computer terminal for credit card dealings. However, you cannot qualify for your merchant account unless you have a good credit standing.

The main benefit of having a merchant account is the swipe rate. This refers to merchant bank rate, which could also be as low as 2.2%. Such low rate is during swiped transactions, which means customer is present with card at store. However, swipe rates are higher in Internet transactions with third-party online services.

There are still more fees and charges in Ecommerce exchange accounts. If you issue refund, you pay a charge of three percent. They also charge a further three percent on refunds. Charge backs are another issue. Merchant account companies like Ecommerce exchange accept charge backs and if you have also have Visa/MC, you only receive a letter from the company that they accept charge backs.

Ecommerce exchange costs around $300 only but you incur further costs. Ecommerce exchange necessitate setup fees, purchase of software, SSL certification every year, etc. However, these amount to higher costs in comparison to other merchant accounts like paypal or 2checkout.com. Paypal offers free signup, though verification process is too confusing and time-consuming for first timers. Fraud checking is not too good and transaction fees are 3%. 2checkout.com however, needs $49 for signing with a 5% transaction fee. Fraud checking is good and you do not need any SSL certification.

Ecommerce exchange is not viable for most merchants as you can accept your credit cards with your own terminal and SSL certification. Hence, you install terminal and change order page for greater security. This does not yield any further benefit, as if you move to another host, you cannot carry along your certification and host will not give you the key. Hence, you do not receive any benefit of Ecommerce exchange. Therefore, it is best to avoid Ecommerce exchange.
