Paul Henry had political ambitions and inclinations from a young age. While at the university from 1965 to 1970, Paul Henry had been a congressional staff person. Paul was working for Republican representative John Anderson of Illinois. His first job was very simple and uncharacteristic. Paul had to attend to telephone calls and use a freak machine to bring out weekly newsletters.
However, by 1968, Paul Henry was an important person in his political party. Paul Henry held the third ranking leadership position by becoming chair of the House Republican Conference. This position helped Paul to function with many responsibilities. Paul strived to uphold a united and well-informed Republican congressional caucus.
Paul Henry also secured his PHD. However, Paul had to move out with his family in 1970 to Grand Rapids at Michigan. This gave Paul Henry an opportunity to teach at Calvin College. Paul became more active in politics. He was campaigning for various individuals to hold office.
Local republicans were aghast at election of a democrat to the local congress seat. This made people realize the need to project their party as more energetic, youthful, and intellectually respectable. People gave Paul the responsibility of the Kent County Republican Party.
Paul’s political skills spread everywhere. Michigan's Republican governor, William Milliken appointed Paul on the Michigan State Board of Education. Paul won an open seat in the Michigan State House of Representatives in 1978 and later Paul entered Michigan State Senate in 1982.
Paul Henry constantly won reelections. However, Paul developed brain tumor in 1992. Paul underwent surgery and recouped though for a little time only. Paul Henry succumbed to brain tumor on July 31, 1993 while in harness. Paul had a very impressive but short political career.
